Mentorship Program

Designed to help males of color who are consistently struggling to achieve successful academic and social outcomes. Participants will learn important emotional competencies to achieve personal transformations and become empowered to communicate more skillfully to resolve conflicts. Connecting males of color to their culture through cultural literacy while stressing the importance of self-development, will help them build self-confidence and self-esteem by striving to be respectable young men at all times, in and outside of the classroom.

Research shows that mentoring relationships make a big difference to young people.

Further evidence shows that mentoring is linked to the following positive outcomes:

  1. A better attitude towards school;
  2. Improvement in attendance;
  3. Better decision making skills;
  4. In-depth knowledge of more than one culture;
  5. Improved personal and social skills;
  6. Better communication and trusted relationships with teachers, adults, and peers;
  7. Decrease in alcohol and drug use;
  8. Ability to successfully resolve potential conflicts;
  9. Knowledge of essential life skills and vocational skills.

Additionally a study published by The National Mentoring Partnership reports young adults with mentors are:

  • 55% more likely to enroll in college;
  • 78% more likely to volunteer regularly; and
  • 130% more likely to hold leadership positions.
